This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school has been closed since March, and many of our students are facing challenges beyond their control and yet doing the best that they can under the circumstances. 98% of my students come from low income communities who struggle to not only make ends meet let alone try to get Internet service. I have one mom recently who was explaining the difficulty of her school age children all trying to share the same hot spot to go online to do school work. I currently have seniors, class of 2020, and 9th graders and many of them are facing such adversity, I hope they never have to face again. I am so proud and humbled to be their teacher and want to do the best I can as their teacher.
My Project
Having an outdated laptop of my own, the Surface laptop/tablet would be helpful such that it can also be converted to a tablet, and used with a stylus. The ability to access various features such as drawing graphic organizers, and writing notes to easily share with students while distance learning would surely help.
Updated technology, while learning from home for both teachers and students would make "distance" learning more manageable.
Having the ability to use a stylus would give me the flexibility to incorporate additional teaching and learning strategies. The Surface laptop/tablet would give the ability to draw, share, and innovate new ways to teach through distance learning.
Trying to learn how to "teach" through distance learning while still trying to meet the needs of diverse learners I am looking for ways to address those visual learners especially to learn the content such as figuring out the interest rate for a car loan, for an activity in financial literacy.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
