My Project

Aloha donors! I'm Joshua Patterson, a middle school science teacher in Waimanalo, Hawaii, and I'm reaching out to create a truly unique learning experience for my amazing students with the Waimanalo Watershed: A Bottle Garden Project!

This project will bring a self-contained ecosystem right into our classroom.

Imagine a world where students can see how plants, water quality, and even fish (if we choose to include them) depend on each other – all within a special bottle garden! We'll be exploring sustainable practices like hydroponics, a method that uses less water to grow food, which is a valuable skill here in Hawaii. By focusing on the Waimanalo Watershed, we'll connect this project to their local environment and raise awareness about the importance of clean water sources.

But this project is about more than memorizing facts. Your donation will allow my students to become scientists! They'll ask questions, solve problems, and work together as a team to build, maintain, and learn from their eco-column. This hands-on experience will spark their curiosity about science, develop critical thinking skills, and foster a sense of responsibility for our beautiful island environment.
