Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students learn best when they feel safe and cared for. Bullying takes away their sense of security and negatively impacts their learning. I want to help my students develop a set of strategies that will help them deal with bullying whenever and wherever they encounter it.
I teach a very diverse group of students.
Sixteen of my students are Latino, four are African American, and three are Asian/Pacific Islander. All of my students receive for free or reduced meals. Six of them are English learners. They are a bright and eager group who learn best when they feel safe and cared for.
My Project
My students need the book, Bullying in Schools and an anti-bully book collection, 2 Stress balls, and a Balance Ball Chair to create and maintain a bully free environment in and outside of our classroom. I am requesting several books that will help me develop an anti-bullying curriculum for my classroom. These books include professional development texts, like "Bullying in Schools," "The New Bully Free Classroom," "Real Life Bully Prevention for Real Kids," and "No Kidding About Bullying."
I am also requesting two dozen story books that will provide my students with strategies to deal with the various kinds of bullying they may encounter during their educational lives. For example, "Bullies are a Pain in the Brain," "The Bully Blockers Club," and "Good Bye Bully Machine" will provide my students with realistic ways to keep themselves safe from a bully. Books like "My Secret Bully" will help them deal with emotional bullying among friends. Other books, like "Say Something" and "Bully Beans, " will help us initiate discussions on the role of bystanders in bullying situations.
Books like "Billy Bully," "How to Take the Grrr out of Anger," and "Confessions of a Former Bully" will empower my students to think about their own behavior and make changes to behavior that might be hurtful to themselves and others.
The stress balls and balance ball chair will help us create a physically calming classroom environment which will reduce the likelihood of bullying.
With your help, my classroom will have a powerful set of tools to help us create a bully-free school environment.
