My Project

I am excited to share this project with you that aims to provide essential clothing, such as pants and shirts, for underprivileged children as it addresses a critical issue that affects their well-being and academic performance. I teach in a school with a population of economically challenged students. Unfortunately, not everyone has access to the necessities. This community service act will teach students that they can solve real-world problems, make positive impacts in their communities, and cultivate empathy.

My goal is for students (3rd-5th) to help serve their fellow students by organizing and operating a "clothing closet" with new and gently used clothing for school.

Students will first take ownership of the project by collecting items that they wish to donate. The project will be shared to the school by students during the student-led morning announcements. All teachers and students will have the opportunity to donate. Students will also perform tasks, such as labeling, hanging, and sorting. After the donations are received, students will make announcements and make posters to share the "Grand Opening". If funded, the project will be a significant boost and support for the closet.

Fresh clothes can have a major impact on self-esteem and social interaction among peers. Sometimes this is all it takes for a student to refocus and learn. Hopefully, this act of kindness and service will instill a sense of goodwill that spreads to the community at large and the world.
