My six students are sweet, energetic, motivated children that are eager to learn and interact. These 6 kindergarten-second graders are currently in a 6:1:1 classroom in a highly specialized program that serves children with Autism. Throughout the school day, my students work extremely hard on academics, daily living skills, socialization, and communication.
Each student in my classroom has a strong desire to interact and communicate.
My classroom consists of students that are verbal and non-verbal. Throughout the school day, my students use a variety of ways to communicate. Students in my classroom use pictures, visuals, and personalized devices. As a 6:1:1 teacher I am constantly looking for ways I can support my students in the area of communication.
Technology has become a wonderful tool in developing the speech and language of students with specific needs. Many students who are non-verbal use technology in order to express their wants and needs.
Mini iPads will help provide more opportunities for my students to interact with their peers and teachers throughout the school day.
The iPads will be able to enhance our school day by providing the non-verbal students with more opportunities to communicate. These iPads will also be a great way for the students to access educational websites, suggested by our school. Students now are often unable to access these websites because they are unable to use a mouse. Students will thrive with the touch screen set up.
