This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it felt like to open a Christmas present as a child? Due to the economic status of my kiddos, they are not guaranteed any presents for the holiday, and I am positive they would thoroughly enjoy an amazing book to read!
These wonderful students come from a Title I school in Texas.
Most of my amazing students are of low economic status (on free or reduced price lunch). They are eager to learn and love reading, but the only books they get to read are from the library or what I have in my classroom. They would certainly benefit from a brand new book to read over the holiday break.
My Project
I am requesting one book per child in my classroom that they can open during our Christmas party at school. This book will be theirs to keep and read whenever they want. My students will be expected to read the book over the break and come back able to explain and present the summary, author's purpose, and talk about the inferences they came across during their reading.
Most of my parents rely on the books provided by the school for homework, as well as leisure reading for their children.
I periodically let my students take my personal books home to complete assignments or to read on a long weekend, but I often don't get those back. This book they get to open will be theirs and they will so enjoy and appreciate the gift!
