Our students are excellent although it has been a tough time for us this year.
Our students are hard-working, kind students who are still struggling after Hurricane Florence.
Though many of our students are still displaced from their homes, you would not know it based on how positive they are in class. It has been a true pleasure to witness our school community coming together after the devastation, but many students are coping with a lot of stress. I am trying to find a way to help with students' stress of being displaced from their homes in a productive way that will give them a life-long love for music.
My Project
With over 70 families in our school displaced from their homes after Hurricane Florence, students need a positive outlet after school. Starting a guitar club after school will be a great way to ease students' stress through a creative outlet. We have 4 acoustic guitars which will be a great way to learn basic chords, songs, scales, and have a great time picking along with friends, but we need cases so students can take them home to practice. Music has been proven to improve academic performance/depression/anxiety and more. There are already many students and staff ready to start guitar club! This will be a great way to let students use guitars in school and take them home so they can practice on their own!
