The Gift of Learning Through Music, Voice and Visuals
Help me give my students the gift of these materials that will help with their learning and needs while out of school and working from home. I work with students that need high contrast books and materials.
My students are multi-handicapped and I love working with these students. I work with them in the hospital/homebound setting, however, I am now virtually teaching my amazing students from home. Our schools closed as of March 16th and since then I have had to be creative and come up with a ways to teach my students from home using what I have. I would love to have resources that I could send these students that are in home and in the hospital. My students are at home or hospital with their parents and caretakers. I am not allowed to visit, however can send deliveries. The students are learning using zoom lessons created by me. The students are really enjoying getting to see me online. I need more resources to send them. My students like books that are high contrast and interactive, music, and lights. I am using what I have, however, my students need more and I want to be able to provide them with resources. My students are missing being able to do hands-on learning, therefore, I would love to be able to deliver materials to them to bring a smile to their faces.
My Project
My name is Anna Merrill and I am a special needs teacher of amazing students. I work with multi-handicapped, medically fragile students. These students are my passion. I am missing my students during this pandemic, however I have been fortunate enough to see them through zoom. The students I get to work with are amazing. I love to see them and the smiles. They are non-verbal, however that doesn't keep them from communicating and learning. We use visuals, communication boards, books, voice output devices and more for learning. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of those materials at my house and that is why I am reaching out to donors choose and the community for help in getting great resources to deliver and use with my students over zoom for learning. My students need visuals and hands-on learning activities with lights, music, and touch for communication and sensory. Several of my students have visual impairments, therefore these materials I am asking for would help those students. These materials would provide even more learning opportunities for my students by giving them the gift of high contrast books, musical and light toys, and books with sound for communication. It is not the same doing online learning with my students, however it is better than nothing and I am super happy that I have the opportunity to continue to work and smile with each of my students. I will continue to find materials and activities that we can do together that will help meet their needs. I am very passionate about my students and I believe in each of them and don't want this situation to have a negative impact on them and their learning, however to have a positive impact through the rest of the year.
