Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a school social worker, I meet with parents, families, and work with Newcomer students who are new to the country to and try to provide resources, information, and support. With the influx of immigrants/refugees, there is a high need to communication to happen with students and families who don't speak English. And now our school is getting students who speak more than just Spanish. The translation device will be used to talk with students, who don't speak English, who are having conflicts, have questions about what they are learning, and who need help. When our interpreter is gone there are times when whoever is covering the office will say, "No Spanish today." I don't want us to ever have that there is no one to help a student or parent. Some of our students who come to school don't know any English and having the translation device would help make them feel more comfortable and communicate important academic information.

When teachers and staff members do not speak Spanish or another language, having a translation device would be extremely helpful and help make our school more equitable.

Communication is an amazing gift that can greatly impact parent engagement and student success!
