This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"If you're scientifically literate, the world looks very different to you, and that understanding empowers you." -Neil deGrasse Tyson.
Today's students need to become empowered, as well as prepared to lead in a global economy with expanding opportunities in science-related fields.
I have been teaching science for the last 5 years (With 3 of those years at the high school level).
During my time teaching at the high school level I have taught an array of science subjects including: Earth Science, Environmental Science, and most recently GeoPhysical Science. My next task is to teach those subjects in alignment with the new Next Generation Science Standards adopted by the State of New Jersey. In order to do so, I must familiarize myself with the engineering and cross-cutting concepts and how they will deepen my students' understandings of science. In addition to taking a more in-depth introduction to the framework of NGSS, I would like to serve as a resource for other teachers within my teaching subject and their classrooms.
My Project
The materials that I am requesting will serve as resources for my professional development. The books I have selected focus on interpreting the Next Generation Science Standards, as well as, learning how to implement them in the science classroom. The binder, highlighters, dividers, and post-its will help me organize my findings and refer back to them as references. The post-it self stick easel paper and markers, will be used during common planning time. During that time I will collaborate with my fellow science team in order to realign our curriculum to coincide with the Next Generation Content Standards.
The materials I have requested for this project will help develop lessons that are rich in content and practice.
Through my preparation and development of the NGSS, my students will be able to learn science in a coherent manner that connects them to engineering practices and real-world problems.
