Taya and KellyAnn decided that iPads would make learning math more fun. The girls discussed how technology has become a major factor for kids outside of school. They would love if it was a part of their learning too. They were so excited about the possibilities!
The students developed this idea by using iPads in other classrooms. They thought, why not use them in math if we use them in other subjects. The students said they feel the iPads help bring the math to life. They engage the students that might be falling behind and challenge the students that need the higher order thinking. The students also mentioned how heavy their backpacks are and realized they could use their textbook interactively instead of lugging it around everyday!
The students will develop their content knowledge of math by using the iPads. They will be able to review videos, interactive textbooks and math games to support their conceptual understanding of new topics. Students always struggle with the why behind the math and watching videos about new topics will support this struggle. Students will also work in teams to solve real-life math problems. There are many applications for the iPads that allow students to work through real-life situations while interacting with technology.
In Their Own Words
The goal is to get iPads in math to help us with learning and make math more entertaining. It is hands-on which is better for the children in the class who want to learn with digital materials. Technology is a huge part of our lives outside of school! We want it to play a big factor inside of school as well. We are the future generation and iPads would further our research and knowledge on new math topics in school.
Once we receive the iPads we will help Mrs. Klein find applications that are appropriate for school. This will help students that need extra practice on specific topics and also students that need more challenging work. We will also need to work on cooperative learning while sharing the iPads.
This project is important because it would make each child more intellectual in their thoughts. The iPads would further our research and knowledge while making math more exciting. It will give us a chance to see how working with technology might feel. As the world becomes more digital so should the students. An iPad might offer an explanation that a teacher would not. As we grow up we will choose careers that may relate to technology. The iPads will help promote these careers.
