The Future is Now! 1:1 Ratio of Chromebooks to Kids!
Help me give my students Chromebooks! We hope to reach our goal of a 1:1 ratio of Chromebooks to 8th grade students by the beginning of next year so every child can reach their potential!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend a Title I school in sunny Arizona. The majority of our students speak English as a second language, and 100% of our students receive free lunch. Many of them have experienced the difficulties and trauma that can come from living in poverty and struggle to focus on school as a result. That said, our students are some of the brightest, most creative kids you can imagine.
They are becoming quite the talented writers, but unfortunately, many of our students don't have access to computers and the internet at home.
As a result, they are not as tech savvy as they need to be to compete in the real world. They struggle with basic skills like typing, researching, collaborating and emailing on computers. We try and get them in the computer lab as often as possible, but with 700 kids on campus and only a few available labs, as you can imagine it can be quite difficult! We were fortunate to acquire a bunch of Chromebooks at the beginning of this year, but we are far from a 1:1 ratio that would turn the tide for these kiddos.
My Project
This year we began incorporating technology into our classrooms with Chromebooks and Google Classroom. I can not possibly describe how great an impact these devices have made for our kids. Not only have they made significant academic progress but they are becoming more and more technologically savvy. As fantastic as our progress has been, we know it will be so much more dramatic if we can achieve our goal of a 1:1 ratio of Chromebooks to kids.
Ultimately, we want to be able to completely "flip" our classrooms so that we can offer more frequent feedback and maximize student learning.
We envision paperless classes, where students utilize technology to collaborate with their peers, research, outline, write, revise, and publish their writing. Along the way we will endeavor to improve our typing and computer literacy.
In order to reach our goal, we need your help! Our goal is to have enough Chromebooks for every child to connect every day in every class and we are well on our way thanks to donors like you! Any donation, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated by these technology starved kids!
