My Students
My students are the leaders of the future. I love how they are hard-working and ambitious. They live in an underserved and neglected community. They are so special because every day, just getting to school is a struggle for my students. Dealing with family and community issues could really be discouraging, but they persevere. I provide a loving and safe place for them and they excel. I admire them so much for their courage. They are the real Super Heroes.
My Project
For the last few years, researchers are focusing on social-emotional learning. What they have found is that unless you can emotionally reach a child, you won’t be able to teach a child. Creating a loving caring environment is crucial to being able to reach a child emotionally. Flexible seating allows students to feel comfortable and safe and thus allowing them to open up and talk about whatever concerns them. It gives me great joy when I can make a difference in the lives of my students just by providing an environment that says, you are loved and you are safe.
