My students need marbles, Transparent Marble Run, K'Nex Real Bridge sets, and K'nex Engineering Marvel sets to get a better understanding to hands-on forces and motion.
Students love to talk about riding across the longest bridge or how fast a roaster coaster goes. Imagine how they will feel if they get a chance to build a replica of these things. Who wouldn't love to discuss and build a look-a-like of something like these and learn at the same time?
I teach seventh grade Integrated Science which includes atmosphere (weather), human biology, cells and heredity, and motion and forces.
I teach at a very high-need, focus, and Title One school in North Carolina.
Many of my students come from families that do not have a lot. Many of my students' parents can only buy basic items for the family such as food and clothes. It is a great task at times just to have a place to stay at night, a place to call home. Supplies for these students are left up to the teachers and the school community. Many of my students learn better using hands-on techniques because it makes learning fun and worthwhile.
My Project
Newton Laws of Motion and Forces is a great learning topic that creates an atmosphere for building and making things work more efficient. The mechanism behind how things work, how fast something moves, or how heavy something may be all contribute to Newton Laws. There is so much to teach with this topic but it is better to show instead of tell. The materials that I am requesting will give students the opportunity to track speed and velocity through technology and test the Laws from the things that they are creating themselves. These materials will help them be innovative and creative while they are learning value material. Being able to build bridges and roller coasters will give these students a sense of ownership and help increase the learning process of each child. It will help the students use critical thinking skills and hands-on techniques to learn value information that will help close the achievement gap. Learning does not have to be dull. It can be meaningful and fun.
With your support, my students will be rewarded an opportunity to be creative and innovative and learn at the same time.
Even though they come from a world of poverty, your donation can give them great ideas of how to overcome poverty. Being able to learn and have fun at the same time will give my students a sense of confidence. You may even inspire the next engineer, teacher, or amusement park owner.
