The Fonz Is A Writer

My project needs 2 copies each of 13 books in Henry Winkler's Hank Zipzer series.

As an educator and life long reader I love walking into Barnes and Noble, Borders, or any store with a book section. While on one of my many trips to Barnes and Nobel I came upon a book from the Hank Zipzer Series. I noticed that on of the authors of this books happened to be Henry Winkler. Not many people know that Henry Winkler, a one-time New York City resident, grew up with dyslexia. He was called lazy, stupid, and he was told that he was not living up to his potential. In school every subject including math, writing, reading, spelling, and science were very difficult for him. Henry Winkler has taken his life experiences and created the character Hank Zipzer. Hank Zipzer, who is dyslexic, is a young boy that could be described as an underachiever. Since reading and writing are difficult for Hank he always finds a different way to express himself. Unfortunately sometimes it does not always go as planned. I would love to have one copy of each of Mr. Winkler’s books to add to my classroom library. My students are all very diverse children from a large town in New York City. To introduce learning diversity to my students in a humorous way would open the door to many wonderful conversations. These books would teach my students, in a lighthearted way, that not everyone learns the same way and that it is okay to be different; it only makes you a better person.
