This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Help me make sure my students get all of their needs met in my classroom. Maslow's Hierarchy is a way to understand what humans need to thrive. The bottom of the hierarchy is food, water, and shelter - if my students don't have these things, Maslow's Hierarchy says they won't be able to achieve other things like feeling safe and secure, feeling love and belonging, and being able to effectively learn in our classroom.

Most of my students come from low-income homes, where they experience many struggles daily.

And, as middle schoolers, life tends to be pretty chaotic, and hunger strikes often. No matter the circumstance, they all have days where they forget or lack access to food, whether it be something small like forgetting to eat or not having access to breakfast. Providing them with snacks means they can get back to focusing on learning, and I can focus on meeting their other needs.
