Earlier this year, my students read Brothers in Arms, a novel in the Bluford High book series. Since that time, they have been asking to read the sequel.
I am requesting a set of The Fallen, the sequel to Brothers in Arms, to provide a shared classroom experience and lots of source material for thinking, talking, and writing.
The Bluford High books are appealing and accessible to my English Learners. They enjoy predicting events and outcomes for the characters in these realistic fiction novels. After we moved on to reading Hamlet, my students continued to reach back to their experiences with Brothers in Arms to make connections between Hamlet and Martin Luna, one of the characters in the Bluford High series.
My students will be excited to learn that they will be continuing to read the story of Martin Luna.
