This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In our first grade classroom reading is where a lot of the magic takes place. We spend an hour a day in our Daily Five literacy stations/Guided Reading Groups. At any point during the day if my students have free time, they grab their book boxes and dive into a book.
I have a very lively, curious and fun loving group of first graders this year.
They make every day a joy to come to work. Our school is in a small community and we are very close knit. We have lots of volunteers come in to visit us and guess what my students like to do when them come to visit? READ! I am thrilled every time they jump at the change to show off their amazing reading skills.
My Project
My students visit the reading area more than any other area in the room. They are constantly looking for books on topics that they love and that are on their level but we have one big issue....space!! We are running out of room and need to get organized as soon as possible. The bookshelves and bins will make our reading area an user friendly library and my students will spend less time hunting for books and more time reading them.
I hope to instill my passion for reading in my students and hope that they carry this passion throughout their lives.
My teachers did that for me and I would love to be able to provide this for my students.
