My Students
Our student population is racially and ethnically diverse. Over 20% are in ELL and/or Indian Education or SPED programs. We have students from Somalia, China, the Philippines, Vietnam, as well as Natives from rural Alaska. They have warm smiles and they try very hard to listen and learn but they struggle because our school lacks the budget that supports them. Most of them are economically disadvantaged. School is everything for them. It is a warm, safe place.
After school, I work with groups of students who come to the library every day for added support and homework help.
All of them are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. My school has a tradition of being a neighborhood school, but it is now a school in transition. Nearly 1/4 of the families now receive Supplemental Social Security Income or Public Assistance and they are struggling to stay above the poverty line.
My Project
My students attend an older, urban elementary school. Our school is coded as "highest poverty". All the students at my school are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. They hurry to school in the morning for breakfast at 7:30 and eat lunch at 11:30. Many of them do not have dinner. They stay after school to work with me in the library. I provide extra support in reading and homework help.
By the time the bell rings at the end of the school day, my students are starving.
They have no money for food. They cannot afford snacks they desperately need so they can power through the day until 6:30 when they can finally go home. I am asking for some fruit snacks and crackers for my 3rd-6th grader after school scholars.
I would do anything to help my students. In addition to needing snacks, we currently have a problem with lice. I have heard about a new natural spray product that will help my students. I am requesting five bottles of SoCozy Boo! Lice Scaring Spray.
Your donation to this project will be a wonderful gift to my students. They need your help.
