Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my Video Game Design class come from a variety of diverse backgrounds. I teach in a Title One school in Brooklyn and my students predominantly live within the surrounding neighborhood.
The students who attend our school are some of the hardest working students I have ever encountered.
Despite the challenges they face daily, they continue to show up, persevere, and achieve great things academically.
My Project
As the teacher who runs our Video Game Design Club at our school, I am always looking for new and innovative ways to bring technology to my students. They spend countless hours enjoying a variety of games, on a variety of platforms, without ever stopping to consider just how these consoles and games actually work.
Virtual and augmented reality has become the norm now in the modern world of gaming.
But many of my students have yet to experience it or understand how it came to be. The Oculus Rift has set the standard for VR/AR experiences, and with that system, I am hoping to open my students' eyes to an endless world of possibilities through the use of virtual reality.
Besides being able to experience virtual reality, whether it be through tours of various locations around the world, gaming, or learning new and interesting facts about our solar system, it is my intention to not only expose students to this new platform, but to help them understand what goes into creating these virtual worlds.
