This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school's largest class is 92 3rd graders, all of whom have been virtual learning all year. Located in downtown San Jose, our school has been unable to open up because of the many surges the Bay Area has been facing. Although the third-grade students have not been in a class since March 2019, they push themselves every day to be online in order to continue to learn and thrive through this pandemic.

My Project

All year, our students have been attending online classes from 8-12 and spending the rest of their day doing independent work. Recently we've been preparing for the California standardized tests, which has been so challenging for them, but they've been working like champs to succeed.

These kiddos have worked so hard, making connections and memories through Zoom, and we truly want to give them some fun and educational activities to occupy their summer months.

Because of this, we're putting together bags full of fun things like bubbles and slime, but also practical things like snacks and books. Please help us give them a memorable end to a year that has felt "virtually" impossible for both teachers and students. The learning materials will allow them to continue to read and practice important literacy skills throughout the summer. The fun items give them the opportunity to explore their creativity during the summer months. Overall, our goal with this project is to celebrate students for their hard work and to give them an opportunity to engage in learning during the summer months.
