This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students are a diverse group from a variety of culture, social and socioeconomic backgrounds. At our school, diversity is celebrated and embraced. Our students are supportive of one another and want to experience the world through all aspects.
They are amazing learners and work hard to experience the success that they achieve.
As a school, we want to help our students continue this success through new learning experiences to make them excited to come to school and find out more.
My Project
Currently, we are using cell phones and Chromebooks as stopwatches/timers in class. My students have craved for something that is not as cumbersome as a Chromebook as they often experience experimental errors using it. With only 3 balances to measure the mass of objects, it creates a backlog of students waiting to measure their materials.
These timers and scales are able to be used in every unit of study we cover in 7th grade.
From cellular biology to physics to meteorology, these tools will be a valuable asset to our classroom laboratory. About 4 times a month we can use these materials, resulting in a total of about 150 hours of direct use in class. My students will find experiments much easier to complete and they can focus on the concepts we are learning about.
