This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The students in a disability empowerment lunch club visited a local resource center and saw a tile art project that inspired them. They have worked this year to build understanding and empowerment for students with disabilities at their large, urban middle school, including creating an assembly presentation for the entire school celebrating Disability Awareness Month. This is the next project they want to take on to connect peers to disability in their lives. They want to build time at lunches to allow their peers to use art supplies to create small pieces on wood tiles to represent how disability has touched their lives. This could be disability they experience or via a family member or friend.

The tiles will be displayed as a mural at the school, in a space not yet determined, once the project is complete.
