Our students need some fun and fitness in their day! Getting them ready to pass the 5th grade physical fitness test is no easy task. Having access to balls, goals, mats, and other equipment will help them to get moving and enjoy it while they are at it.
Our fifth grade students are preparing to take the state physical fitness test.
They are very excited and setting goals to improve their health and fitness levels. Unfortunately, at our Title 1, high poverty school, we have no equipment to help them prepare. The facilities at our site are over 30 years old. Most days, even the track is unusable. Our school is a very diverse, neighborhood school, but due to socio-economic struggles many of our students are unable to participate in extra-curricular sports or any other physical activities. They get so excited to get out of the classroom and participate in PE, but when we do, there is no equipment for them to use.
My Project
This equipment, like footballs, soccer balls, and yoga videos will help the students become physically active while having fun and learning sportsmanship. Being active will help their overall health and ability to learn, as well as teaching them about setting goals, following through on those goals, and achieving them. The supplies I have requested will be able to be used in a multitude of ways. They can be used for drills and competitive activities, all while getting the students moving. The balls, flags, cones, and goals can be used for many activities to help the students learn rules and sportsmanship skills. When we are unable to be outside and physically active, we will use the yoga DVDs and mats to keep the exercise enthusiasm going strong!
Active, healthy students need to be taught these skills at an early age.
Getting this equipment is critical to their health and success as students in the future. Can you help provide my students with life-long fitness skills?
