The Difference Between Ordinary and Extraordinary Is That Little Extra.

Help me give my students the EXTRAordinary! We've come to the end of our rope where we are running out of supplies (iPads, makers, crayons, glue stick, etc...) and in need of new resources to complete this year and achieve true success.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm an ATPE member and a 2nd grade dual language teacher. I have a group of exceptional second graders. The majority come from low-income backgrounds at a Title I school with 89% poverty rates and where 100% of our students receive free breakfast.

I'm always looking for ways to build bridges and expose them to unknown goals and dreams.

However, I find myself many times without the necessary materials to build these bridges. Without these bridges, my students will never have the experiences needed to build their knowledge and real-life experiences to connect to new learning.

My Project

We're at the point where we need EXTRA resources and materials to help us complete a successful school year. Our class shares a total of ten iPads among 22 students to complete programs that are helping with math skills and English language acquisition. In order for our students to advance a year in language acquisition, the programs suggest about 60-80 minutes per week. This has been mission impossible because we don't have enough technology for my students to complete their minutes. I've set up rotations but I'm short two iPads in order to be able to meet these minutes. Also, I'll be using these iPads for tutorial students who lack the technology at home and need to stay to complete their assignments.

We are running out of basic school supplies such as glue, crayons, markers, tape, and sticky notes.

These are supplies that are used on a daily basis and that are essential to fulfilling daily work. From math activities, reading interactive journals or exit tickets.

The plastic pockets, paper cutter and dry erase markers are supplies I use on centers I create myself. Since we have a limit on paper that we can print and use, the plastic pockets will not only help us respect that limit but will help us on saving paper. The students will use these plastic pockets and dry erase markers on math and reading stations where unit skills are practiced.
