Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Hispanic Heritage Month is around the corner, as well as The Day of the Dead! Every year, I like to introduce my students to the different Hispanic/Latino cultures and the Day of the Dead holiday. They study different countries, customs, and foods, and we finish it off by creating a classroom altar and having a small celebration to honor and remember loved ones. This year, I would like to continue the celebration with my new 4th graders. I am asking for sugar skull rings and chili lollipops to be given as we watch the movie CoCo. Giving them their own sugar skull rings will keep them excited and inspire them as they create their own sugar skull art projects. I will serve them different types of food on the plates I am asking for, including churros. The flameless candles will be added to our class altar, and the flags will be strung across our windows throughout the month-long celebration.

It is important for different cultures to be celebrated at school.

Hispanic Heritage Month is a great way to introduce students to cultures that might be different than their own. Including a fun Day of the Dead celebration will make it memorable for all.
