My Students
Really interesting literature can motivate any student to read, but only if they have access to it. My students need a class set of The Dark is Rising to challenge them, inspire them, and awaken the love for reading that should be inherent in every child.
I teach 3rd and 4th grade in a highly gifted magnet.
My students are identified as having an IQ of 145 or above, and have the potential to be tomorrow's leaders. One third of my students are English Language Learners, demonstrating their brilliance despite a language barrier. Because of their highly gifted identification, I make every effort to differentiate their curriculum to best suit their diverse needs. They are exceptional, but not just because of their intellect. They are truly a joy to know and I feel incredibly fortunate to be their teacher.
My Project
A class set of The Dark is Rising will enable my students to work at their own pace and further my ability to differentiate instruction to best meet their diverse needs. With this book in hand, students will dig deep into literary themes while solidifying their love of reading. Whenever we read riveting literature, not only does their comprehension and fluency improve, but their analysis and prediction skills soar.
