This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a dance teacher, I get to witness magic every single day. My students come into class with open hearts, curious minds, and a passion that lights up the room. They inspire me constantly — not just with their movement, but with their resilience, creativity, and willingness to grow.

This project is all about giving them the tools they need to thrive.

Many of my students come from families who can’t always afford materials, but that shouldn’t hold them back from experiencing the joy and discipline of dance. I am requesting skirts, rhythm, sticks, and exercise bands for this project. I use exercise bands, a lot to help my students build strength and to exercise for their physical education credit we are running very low on these types of bands as overtime they wear and tear and sometimes break. I am also supposed to have much larger class sizes next year therefore, I do need a lot more to be able to give every student access to a resistance band. These skirts and rhythm sticks will really help to enhance dance lessons by providing students with the experience of knowing how to incorporate costume use as this is a very typical part of certain dance cultures, such as our Latin dance project that we spend time on. The rhythm sticks will really help for lessons with students who need additional assistance on coordination and matching rhythm to music. This will enhance their abilities to be able to dance and put movements to the beats of music. These materials aren’t just things but stepping stones to self-expression, teamwork, and lifelong confidence.
