Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We begin every morning in our classroom with a lively morning meeting and a "precept of the day" to start our day together in a positive way!
"Teachers will not be replaced by technology. They will be replaced by teachers that understand and use technology to their student's advantage." -Tim Holt
I have 24 students in my inclusion classroom.
My students are excited learners and they become even more engaged and are VERY eager to participate whenever technology is involved in a lesson! In my school, we are fortunate enough to have one computer lab, one Chromebook cart per grade level, and an ENOBoard in every classroom. I teach in an urban school district and the majority of my students come from low-income households. I am currently enrolled in graduate school, taking a class on integrating literacy and technology in the classroom.
In my opinion, internet access and computer skills are essential in both schooling and in life. It is especially important that technology is available and computer skills are taught in urban districts because many students do not have access to it on their own at home. As I am learning more about implementing technology, I am anxious to create a class blog/website and begin e-pals (electronic pen pals) and participate in a Global Read Aloud!
My Project
My students enjoy using Google docs to type and share their work with others during writer's workshop, and also enjoy when I create "kahoots" to assess them in a "fun" way! They enjoy academic sites such as sumdog, spelling city, xtramath, pebblego, and much more! However, it is very difficult to get their creations such as PowerPoints, writing, word clouds, etc. printed!
We only have 1 color copier in the office that is not for classroom use and currently we are not able to print off the Chromebooks at all. It would be wonderful for my students to have access to a wireless printer so we are able to print, share, and showcase projects they create using technology! In addition, it would be helpful for me to have a color printer in my classroom because right now I spend a lot of my own money printing things off in both black and in color at home for my students.
My students will use these donations for creative academic tasks.
By being able to print their work, it can be displayed for others to see and they will also be able to take it home! With our own printer, I won't have to save and e-mail things to myself, nor leave the classroom to walk downstairs to pick it up from the staff black and white copy machine. By having a printer WITH ink, I would be even more excited to plan learning experiences and authentic performance tasks using technology.
