This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Students in our school come from every background that can be imagined. This includes bilingual families, single parent families, foreign language only families, and more.
Each class consists of 18 - 28 students, each meeting once a week to receive a music education.
Our school consists of students with a large majority of free or reduced lunch. Our school is one of the top schools in Jefferson Parish, with students leaving to go to other top middle and high schools.
My Project
My project consists of instruments that will be used within a music classroom with a strong emphasis on Orff Schulwerk. The instruments include four glockenspiels, two soprano and two alto, as well as stands for the larger bar instruments that the school already possesses.
Right now, students would have to play the larger instruments on unadjustable chairs, which is very difficult for students in wheelchairs or students who are either taller or shorter than the instrument's height.
This is the reason for the stands.
As for the glockenspiels, having more instruments like the glockenspiels will allow more students opportunities to perform in the classroom, which will engage more students throughout the lesson.
