I teach a wonderful group of creative first graders at a school in Southern California where over 30% of the students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch daily.
Our school loves to integrate the arts and technology into our academics because we know that many students are inspired and thrive in an atmosphere where they can explore, discover, and have fun too.
We are a school of many cultures, and many students speak another language other than English at home.
My Project
Right now, my students can use our existing iPad Minis only in small groups. With the completion of this project, my students will be able to use iPads as a whole class (shared in pairs, of course, for collaborative learning and storytelling) to create stories with text and pictures using their creativity combined with all the educational apps that iPad has to offer. They can also publish and share these stories using the adapter included in this project. As well, they can all be doing research on whatever topic they like (bringing first grade to a new level!) at the same time. We are currently using iPads to create a book that the students publish of all their research on wild animals. The students also use these tablets for educational gaming and for sharing their learning with others. The bumper cases will keep them safe from the first grade classroom environment. The charging stations will allow my students to have a safe, secure place to return them to, and the adapter will allow my students to share their work even better, being able to connect to the classroom projector.
