My Project

Help me to provide my students with a classroom library- a place where we will keep all of our treasured books and language materials!

One of the most important parts of teaching is creating and fostering an environment that feels like it's own small community.

In our classroom, this community happens to be a bee hive. Let me explain:

The entire classroom is adorned to resemble a forest, which centers around the giant bee wall in our room. The purpose of the bee wall is to encourage students to set goals and work hard to meet those goals. When any student meets a goal, they get to put a bee on the wall. It is a celebration for our entire speech class when anyone gets to add a bee to our community bee hive. It brings so much joy, excitement, engagement, and learning to our class. It is something that connects all of my speech students together. We are all working towards the same mission: to grow our speech and language skills and (perhaps just as important to them) get as many bees in the bee hive as we can!

I have worked to incorporate that sense of common purpose and community throughout the classroom environment. My next step is a speech room library. It is where we can keep our books and language activities on display for students to select from, rather than having books hidden away in a cabinet the students cannot see or access. Using the tree bookcase and the bee design bins just ties back into our community theme, while also keeping us organized!
