My students need gloves, and a 2 outlet power inverter to prepare for the upcoming parade season, we must prepare for freezing temperatures during Mardi Gras.
My school is located in a rural area about an hour away from a major city. We receive very little tax revenue. Our parish has few major businesses to generate funding for our town or schools, and elementary level athletic teams get very little to no funding.
Our Title I school is located in a high poverty area in Louisiana.
However, our students are eager to learn and achieve to their highest potential. Almost all of our dancers are on Honor Roll and student of the month(monthly)/every six weeks.
Many times, very little or no funding, does not allow for the purchase of all needs to provide students with the same learning environments and extracurricular opportunities, as students in other school districts. The school seeks outside funding and partnerships to compensate for this deficit.
I try my best to provide the girls with as much as possible, knowing many of my kids may not be able to afford some of the materials that can help them be successful.
My school is becoming one of the top visual and performing schools in the district.
Dance is a sport as well as an avenue for leadership.
My Project
I'm requesting cold weather gloves for the 25 students on the school dance team and 2 coaches, as well as a 2 outlet power inverter for our speaker. Many of my dancers' parents work multiple jobs, or even overtime to make ends meet. There's not always extra funds remaining for their child to participate in extra-curricular programs.
But, the benefits of our school dance team have proven to teach life skills to our little ladies.
Our team has taught the girls: responsibility, teamwork, empathy, and they have made long-lasting friendships.
By being able to gift them with items to make their parents life, just a little easier. A little appreciation goes a long way to the parents and my dancers who give so much.
