My Project
I have spent five years as a guidance counselor and for almost one and a half of those years I was blessed with an actual classroom that my students could come to. When I had a classroom the students knew my expectations and class was always well behaved and well mannered since it was my room and my rules. Pushing into classrooms this past year has been a challenge especially since I serve prek-5th and 6 self contained special education classrooms. This will allow all of those students to have a transition and get them out of their rooms for that time and also allow me full access to all of my materials and supplies to work with my students.
I make sure to keep my room clean and organized, and it always smells good and the students came to look forward to that about my classroom when I had it.
This would help with those supplies since I don’t typically get those items from parents.
In order to have a space, I decided to completely clean out and rearrange my office and turn it into a classroom. I have so many plans for this “cloffice” and I’m excited to be able to grab games like Black History Month bingo and social emotional learning activities from my cabinets! This will also be the space that I meet with students one on one, and I truly believe they will enjoy it.
I serve a school where every child gets free lunch because of how low income and poverty stricken this area is. A lot of our students don’t have clean homes or clean clothes and any opportunity I have to provide them with a pleasant experience for all the senses, I want to do that for them.
