This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a school full of diverse learners who come from various backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses in South Los Angeles. We are working hard to meet the needs of all our learners (many of which are English Language Learners) and ensure they are successful now and in the future.
My students are eager to learn and are striving to become leaders in their community.
Through hard work and dedication, they are becoming 21st century scholars who are prepared to face the ever changing world we live in.
My Project
During distance learning this year, my students will be needing copies of their own books to take home. Their own copy is necessary for them to be able to annotate and write their thoughts as we study the book together.
My students will be diving into Esperanza Rising this year and will be using it to study historical events such as The Great Depression, as well as other topics, such as the California regions, migrant workers, racial identity and so much more.
Such topics will allow us to engage in conversations that are relevant to their lives.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
