Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember keeping a journal about your day in school when you were younger? It was a vehicle for communication, connection, and creativity. This is the kind of tool students need to become better writers.
My students range from Hispanic to African American, with about 10% of them English language learners.
They struggle in the area of writing. However, they have wonderful imaginations and creative thoughts, and they love to share personal moments, or special events they have experienced. Most of my students come from very low income families and are limited in resources. They attend one of the oldest schools in the Bronx.
My Project
With these writing tools, students will develop critical thinking skills that will help them understand and communicate complicated ideas through writing. They will understand the importance of writing through providing vivid details about their daily interactions in their journals.
I am also requesting a bookcase.
Studies have shown that there is not enough emphasis on writing in the classroom.
With your support, my students will develop a passion for writing. They will improve their writing skills across each content area, which will improve their comprehension in reading as well.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
