The Chillville Sensory Room

My Project

Sensory rooms in a school setting are intended to be a therapeutic place students can visit to calm, regroup, and refocus themselves. Students can visit for a few minutes when needed or have scheduled time in the sensory room to explore, imagine, and prime themselves for learning.

Many schools that have a sensory room and sensory equipment have noticed a dramatic decrease in behavior referrals and disruptive student behavior.

The sensory room equipment I'm requesting will allow my students with severe disabilities the equipment needed for a dedicated sensory experience. Currently, my students have very few sensory items (squeeze balls, fidget toys) but not the equipment to enhance all six senses. I have noticed amazing differences, especially with my students with autism, when sensory breaks with the right equipment is employed. They almost always are more attentive and engaged, and get more work completed!
