My Project

The simple act of washing our hands with soap is a fascinating chemical process that has been understood and utilized for centuries.

This project, "The Chemistry of Soap Making: Saponification and Beyond," dives into the scientific heart of how soap is created.

We will explore the fundamental reaction of saponification, where fats and oils undergo a transformative alkaline hydrolysis to yield the cleansing compounds we know as soap and glycerol.

We will also venture beyond this core reaction to examine the various factors that influence the properties of soap, from the types of oils used to the addition of fragrances and colorants.
