My students need 2 crime scene kits to have a hands-on, inquiry based lab activity that exposes them to how chemistry is used in real world applications.
My favorite quote is from Nelson Mandela, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." My proposed project helps introduce students to real world applications of chemistry so that they may one day help change our world for the better.
My students are an incredible group of young adults.
They are constantly working hard to learn and understand chemistry and how it affects the world they live in. Chemistry can be a difficult subject but I see my students working hard and exceeding my expectations every day. They constantly demonstrate a desire to learn and understand chemistry. They love to learn by getting their hands dirty, so to say, by working in the lab and on different projects.
The school we are in has limited funding so finding opportunities for my chemistry students to experience these inquiry-based lab activities can be challenging but they always rise to the occasion. They relish the opportunity for any hands-on experience they can be a part of, from identifying different chemical reactions to graphing the phase change of a melting apple. They are truly a remarkable group of human beings.
My Project
Science is best taught through hands-on, inquiry-based lab activities that allow students to explore, not only chemistry but any area of science. With my proposed project my chemistry students will be given the opportunity to take their knowledge of chemistry concepts and apply it to a real-world experience. With this project my students will have the ability to make a connection between the world of forensics and chemistry.
In today's world of crime television drama many students feel the allure of a career in crime scene investigation. By introducing this project my students will now have the opportunity to experience forensic science first-hand. By creating these connections between the real-world and the concepts they have learned in class my students will develop a deeper understanding of chemistry that will help them succeed in our class.
The school we are in receives limited funding, which means we have limited resources for students.
Your donation to this project will help provide my classrooms with the hands-on, inquiry-based lab activities my students so greatly need. You will be providing my students with an opportunity they may otherwise miss out on, to connect the world around them with the concepts they are learning in our classroom.
