My Students

Do you remember sitting in a classroom listening to hours of boring lectures? These electronic balances will enable my students to participate in attention-getting activities.

Students today have the ability to text message, play video games, and surf the Internet while simultaneously working on homework and watching television!

The chemistry students in our rural, low-income school are very intelligent, inquisitive, and eager to learn new skills. Presenting new information to them in a meaningful way has proven challenging because of our lab's lack of equipment. Learning style inventories have indicated that these students need hands-on activities to cement their learning.

My Project

I have requested three electronic balances in order for my students to complete basic laboratory activities. By having these balances on hand, my students will be able to perform a multitude of fun and exciting activities. Measurement is a skill that they will utilize for the rest of their lives regardless of what career path they choose, and a skill that they must master and build upon. Classes for many years to come will be able to utilize these balances in their learning of measurement, chemistry, biology, and many other science courses.

Performing hands-on activities are vital to the learning of current science curriculum.

Inquiry skills are augmented through these activities and will strengthen the students so they will be able to compete in the global marketplace. This project is important because so many lab activities stem from the use of the electronic balance.
