This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

"Miss, I like reading but not these books!" I cannot tell you how many times my students have said something like the quote above to me. It breaks my heart, but they're right. My classroom library lacks what they want to read: books that appeal to young readers. They keep requesting mysteries and thrillers - and I have none of these books. But you can help!!

As a 9th and 10th grade English teacher in the Bronx, I am aiming to improve student reading levels before they take the SAT's and state test next year. Right now, students are an average of three years behind in their reading levels. Without improving their reading level, they will not pass. They need your help!!!

My students keep requesting mysteries and thrillers - and I don't have any! Studies have proved that the best way to improve student reading levels is to READ. Simple enough, right? So my students spend class time every day reading. In the third month of school, their attention has begun to wane. Most students have finished their first book, and cannot find another one to interest them. They are very motivated and committed, but need books that will keep them interested. They keep asking and begging for mysteries and thrillers - please, please, give them the literature they crave!!
