By having a digital classroom clock my students are able to improve their time management skills. The LED clock allows students to be accountable for their time by clearly and easily showing students the time. The clock has improved student accountability and ownership of their work. \r\n\r\nStudents were excited about unpacking the boxes of lights and the clock. My students were excited about the improvements to our very boring classroom. My students who come early to school are excited to have a breakfast club with special lightning. Students were excited to hang and decorate the lights around the room. \r\n\r\nWe were unable to hang all the lights due to our school having concrete walls and currently being under construction. They are hidden throughout the classroom, but their impact does not go unseen, as the organization that they contribute makes everything run more smoothly.\r\n\r\nThe biggest impact has been in the wire shelves, which I use for student folders and workbooks. Before, these were stacked in the back of the room, and it made the room look messy. Now, not only is it more clean, but the students know where to go for their books and folders when they walk in. On top of that, the timers and noise canceling ear muffs help my students stay on track and focused.\r\n\r\nHaving these materials accessible has been so helpful, especially as a new teacher. Writing is difficult for most everyone it seems but especially challenging for students new to the United States who are learning a new language and culture. To make it a bit more fun with white boards and colorful dry erase markers among other items like purple pens (to help edit their work in a color that is not red) is really helpful. These small changes help create a warmer atmosphere.\r\n\r\nMy students still have to pass the NY State English Language Arts Regents to graduate high school. While finally it has been reported that this requirement will be dismissed by fall of 2027, it is currently still a huge hurtle for students only in the U.S. for a short time. Any help getting this requirement waived for at least English Language Learners sooner would be amazing.
