Help me give my students a safe spot to go to when they are feeling overwhelmed, angry, sad, disappointed, frustrated or just need a minute to themselves.
In pre-k this is sometimes the very first school experience. This age is going through so many adjustments and in pre-K we work a lot with social emotional skills. At this age they are learning to adjust being away from parents, learning to work with others their age and trying to work out how to control their emotions in a safe way. I love this age and helping them gain valuable skills they can use the rest of their lives. This age is so loving and forgiving. They teach me valuable skills also for example how a compliment can just change your day and make you feel special!!
My Project
This is used in a special spot in the classroom where the student can go at anytime when they are sad, frustrated, anxious, or if they need a few moments to themselves. There is material also in this corner that helps them work through their emotions that the teacher has taught at the beginning of the year. They are taught certain breaths they can take to calm, there are feeling buddies they can grab with different faces, books and fidget manipulative’s they can use! This also helps the teacher recognize that the student may need some extra attention or assistance.
