This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a wonderful group of fourth graders who love learning. Our school is a public school with 95% of our students receiving free lunch. Out of 302 students, 54% are Black and 39% Hispanic and the rest are mixed/other.
The classroom is where students and teachers have the opportunity to be creative, have fun and learn all at the same time!
As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of school. Even with these challenges my students come eager to learn. They are sweet, inquisitive, and very energetic.
Many of our families have recently emigrated to the US. My students are 18 happy and energetic fourth graders. It is an ICT class, with a high percentage of special needs children. Most of them come from low income families with various cultural backgrounds and languages.
My Project
It is shown that the physical environment greatly influences our emotions. The materials in this project will benefit my students because it will add color and organization to my classroom. The storage carts will allow the students to be independent and with the pop of color (cobalt blue and multi-color!) it will generate an excitement for learning and being creative. The rug will serve as a bright, cheerful addition to the class library where the students can sit and enjoy many different books of all genres.
Emotions felt in the classroom influence the EFFECTIVENESS of learning, bright colors help to improve the mood of those that might be introverted or think negatively.
Many educational needs are emerging and one of them is to create spaces that promote emotional well-being. By funding my project, it will help me with creating that kind of space for my students!
