The Breakfast Club for Encouraging Reluctant Readers

My students need 7 copies of five different book titles.

Curious, energetic, and excited about learning describe my class of third grade students.

Most of my students can read chapter books, but they are reluctant to choose one because they are more confident with easier picture books. They go for the short and quick books that they know they can finish, and unfortunately they are missing out on some great literature. I want to show them that they can read longer books by walking a group of students through a chapter book by meeting weekly in a "Breakfast Book Club". We will have muffins and juice while we meet together to share parts of the stories. I feel that by providing a fun, relaxed setting even the most reluctant chapter book readers will want to get reading!

I am requesting sets of 7 books covering a variety of interesting and engaging topics to turn my reluctant readers on to chapter books. I want books that will capture their interest, and we will have a breakfast book club to encourage their reading and give them a chance to share the story with other students.

With your generous donation of sets of books my students will be able to read some wonderful books which we will share in regular breakfast book clubs. Once I walk them through reading a longer chapter book, I am sure that they will have more confidence in reading and they may hopefully choose to read other chapter books.
