I have a wonderful group of second graders! There are 19 students who are working hard in the new school year. Our class is made up of girls and boys from a variety of backgrounds. The students are energetic children who are eager to learn. Each unique child in this group has distinctive learning goals that we will strive together to meet this year.
Mr. Rogers said, "Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning." My hope is to give them the best possible learning environment with a variety of tools and experiences that will contribute to their success as students socially, mentally, and academically.
My Project
“Play is the highest form of research” said Albert Einstein.
Research shows that children learn, grow, and process information best through exploration and building muscle memory.
The best way to learn is to play! I have selected a LEGO set and LEGO bricks, speed cubes, and Etch A Sketches to use in my classroom. Students can build mental stamina and problem solving while working with the speed cube. The LEGO set and LEGO bricks offer many opportunities for team and individual problem solving. They can also be used for STEM learning opportunities.
The resources I've selected may also be used for therapeutic and free play. Students come to our classrooms from a variety of circumstances, many who have already experienced significant trauma in their young lives. This trauma impacts their brain development and executive functioning skills. The play that will happen with the learning tools I've selected is therapeutic for these students as it helps them to process their emotions and learn to cope in their environments while developing executive functioning skills.
