Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I currently work with special education and ENL students in my class. All of my students come from low socio-economic backgrounds. Each student comes from a family of limited resources. My students learn through multiple ways and various approaches. They enjoy hands-on activities and learning together. They love to read independently and with a partner. Read alouds are their favorite part of the school day.

Our school is a Title 1 school and the neighborhood is a very diverse community with many low income families who have limited support and resources.

My students have a love for reading and are always looking for new books to read. With this project, I would love to be able to provide my students with even more wonderful books to read!

My Project

In our day and age, we are met with many differences in the real world. As an elementary teacher, I do all that I can to make sure my kids are introduced and familiar with all of the differences in the world. I make sure they all know it is okay to be different or to move to your own beat.

I want to bring as many culturally responsive books into my classroom for my students to be able to relate to.

I think representation in books is extremely important to their education and future. I want my students to be ready for the real world and to be the best citizens out there, ready to use their voices to make a change!
