Let me tell you how much I love teaching first graders! They have such enthusiuasm for learning. They make big plans, jump into projects with both feet, and don't want to miss a thing. One of my favorite things about teaching first grade is watching how quickly they learn to read, and knowing that I have so much influence on their love for reading. Book clubs, book promotions, author studies, and read alouds are some of the best strategies for teaching kids to love reading.
I want to provide my students with a variety of great books by favorite authors that they will enjoy reading and talking about with their classmates.
Each week my read alouds will revolve around author studies where we will study different authors and read their books throughout the week. I will then invite students to read the books in their book clubs and talk about the books with their classmates. I will also get students to promote the books they love, so that their classmates will want to read too. I need a little help though. Since I am new to first grade, I am in need of some more high interest books for my library. The specific items I am requesting will make a difference in my student's learning because they can practice their reading, become better readers, and learn to love reading by reading high-interest books and discussing them with their classmates. The goal of this project is to foster lifelong readers who love reading and talking about books.
