Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are so awesome. We have grown our book club from only ten members to close to thirty members. They are curious and intrigued by literature and looking forward to reading diverse literature! We live in a city rich with culture, and we want to appreciate our own as well as others!
Not only do our members discuss and engage with books and literature, but they are also literacy ambassadors for our campus and also participate in community literacy events, volunteering to read to younger students and running library programming.
We want to give them a fun way to engage with books and the library and inspire a life long love of learning and literature!
Our goals are to encourage literature, library, and research appreciation, as well as to collaborate with the community and school to spread the love of books and learning.
My Project
We are interested in reading Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson, we would also like to take a trip to see the movie version in theatres. We have not read any non-fiction as a group this year and we are very interested in reading this book about the criminal justice system!
We love to sit and discuss important books!
We meet weekly at lunch. The last book we will read is a story about a girl who lives in Juarez and El Paso and by an author from our city! We are very much looking forward to reading a story set in our hometown!
