This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a PE teacher at a school with limited facilities and equipment when it comes to the Physical Education department. We are in a low income community and things became even more limited when we were sent home to do PE during the pandemic. We spent the past year or so trying to do at home workouts using items around our house or maybe just our body. We crumpled up paper to make balls to play games in our living rooms in front of the computer. Normally a very social and interactive class such as PE changed drastically. But now we are back in person and the students are excited to try these activities with their classmates when it is time for PE. I would love to provide the students the opportunity to learn in a safe and welcoming learning environment and become social and interactive once again with new PE materials.

No more going to the refrigerator or garage to look for something heavy to lift!

Students will have a chance to test their own strength using the barbell and bumper weights in a variety of different movements. They can track their progress throughout junior high. After a year of doing PE in isolation, now they can work with their classmates to discover how they can continue to improve their muscular strength and endurance and celebrate each others successes, while also figuring out how to overcome any obstacles.

No more juggling wads of paper or shooting baskets into the trash can! The playground equipment will give students the opportunity to laugh and learn together again across all grade levels. Students can be physically active with their friends and classmates while learning and developing the characteristics of good sportsmanship.
